How we make money

Trailbound is reader-supported. When you click certain links to retailers and then buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go to the retailer directly.

We participate in affiliate programmes in the outdoor and general retail category, including the Amazon Associates programme. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Which links are affiliate links

Any outbound link that goes to a retailer, marketplace, or booking service may be an affiliate link. Links to manufacturers' own documentation, standards bodies, or other publishers are not affiliate links, and we mark the difference where it matters. Articles that contain affiliate links carry a disclosure before the first commercial link and near the top of the page.

What commissions do not buy

• Not a placement. Brands cannot pay to appear in an article, to be ranked first, or to be described favourably.
• Not a rating. We do not publish star ratings, scores, or award badges that could be bought or influenced.
• Not a review. We do not write sponsored reviews, and we do not accept payment for coverage.
• Not a price claim. We do not guarantee that a linked price is the lowest available, or that it matches what you will see at checkout.

If a product we would otherwise recommend has a strong commercial incentive behind it and a real drawback, the drawback gets stated in the same paragraph. That rule is not negotiable.

How products get included

1. A product is included because published specifications show it fits the use case being discussed, or because it is a well-established option in its category.
2. Specifications are taken from the manufacturer's own documentation and dated with a "last checked" note.
3. Where a conclusion depends on long-term field behaviour rather than published data, we say so instead of presenting it as a test result.
4. Availability and programme status are checked before a link goes live. If we cannot verify a destination, the call to action stays disabled rather than pointing somewhere misleading.

Prices

Prices change constantly and vary by region, so we do not print them as facts. Where a price reference appears, it links to a live listing so you see the current figure rather than one we wrote months ago and could not maintain.
